Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has been conferred a special honor amid rumors of North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un being seriously ill. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany, Russia has awarded Kim a World War II Commemorative Medal.
On behalf of Kim, North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Son-Gwon received the medal at the hands of Russian Ambassador Alexander Metsegora. Kim was not present at the ceremony though.
The Russian embassy in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, said on Tuesday that Kim was bestowed with the honor to preserve the memory of soldiers of the Soviet Union who died in North Korea during World War II.
Russia invited Kim to a military parade in Moscow last year, but the parade on May 9 has been canceled due to the Corona epidemic. The celebration was going to celebrate the 75th anniversary of World War II triumph.
