Farrata runner Dutee Chand concluded the season with a gold medal in the 200-meter race at the 59th National Open Athletics Championships. Dutee Chand, who set a national record in the 100 meters, took 23.17 seconds in the 200 meters, which is the best time of any Indian this year. Archana Sushindran won the silver.
Dutee Chand from Odisha was adjudged the best female athlete of the championship, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the best female athlete of the championship. In the absence of Asian Games champion Arpinder Singh in the men’s triumph, six contestants went over 16 meters. Karthik Unnikrishnan topped it with the best performance of 16.78 meters.
In the women’s 3000 meters steeplechase race, Chinta Yadav became the champion, beating her railway partner Parul Chaudhary. PU Chitra of Railways was the second player to win a double gold medal in the tournament. Chitra, who won the gold in the eight hundred meter race, became the winner in 1500 meters with two minutes 04.59 seconds. Railway overall champion, while Sena finished second and Haryana third.
