Amid the lockdown, a Kolkata doctor drove 540 kilometers to drop a poor family home. Rajesh Baskey had come to a Kolkata hospital from his village that was 270 kilometers away.
He came with his wife for the treatment of their eight-year-old daughter. The family was stuck at SSKM hospital for two days because of the lockdown.
A few ambulance drivers who agreed to take them home asked for a lot of money, a price Rajesh, daily wage labor, could not afford.
When Doctor Bablu Sardar heard about their plight, he decided and agreed to drive them home. He was unfamiliar with both the family and the route.
Doctor Sardar and the Bakshes left Kolkata on March twenty-fifth at 9:00 PM and reached
Shulunnga village in Bengal in the early hours of March 26th.
The doctor immediately drove back 270 kilometers to report on duty at the hospital at 10:00 AM
‘I have done what one should do for another human being’ says doctors Sardar.
Rajesh, the daily wager, thanks the doctor says he will not forget what the doctor has done for his family without thinking about himself (the doctor).
